Do You Feel Hopeless About Your Life?
Have you been feeling unusually sad and exhausted lately? Maybe you’re overwhelmed by all the personal and professional responsibilities in your life, and it seems like you can’t catch a break. Perhaps you feel unable to enjoy time with friends and family. Even your hobbies and passions may not pique your interest anymore as other demands and burdens have gotten in the way.
When you’re dealing with depression, the signs and symptoms are far-ranging and can affect both your mind and body equally. Your daily habits and rhythms may seem thrown off-balance. You may struggle with mood swings, low motivation, irritability, and an inability to focus. At the same time, depression can also cause sleep issues, fatigue, and a lack of appetite. In the end, depression can even lead to self-neglect, as you feel too emotionally and physically drained to take care of yourself.
If you want to learn how to deal with depression in a healthy way, we encourage you to connect with us. By working together, we can help you reduce your symptoms, develop new coping skills, and embrace each day with peace and assurance.
Depression Is A Natural Product Of Our Busy, Stressful Culture
Clinical depression affects roughly one-fifth of all adults in the United States. In the wake of COVID-19, widespread economic fallout, and social unrest, the number of people who deal with depression is only increasing. Life is stressful, busy, and overwhelming. It’s no wonder many of us feel hopeless and anxious.
What’s more, because we live in such a workaholic culture, many of us end up sacrificing our emotional well-being in the name of careers and responsibilities. When new obligations present themselves, many of us have trouble saying “no.” As a result, we often end up overworked and overcommitted. The cost of our burdens is often a glaring lack of self-care.
Unfortunately, most people don’t recognize the need for self-care until they feel completely overwhelmed and exhausted. That’s why depression counseling is so important. By working to combat your symptoms sooner rather than later, you can learn to regulate your emotions and keep depression from interfering with how you live your life.
Depression Treatment Can Help You Manage Your Emotions And Challenge Negative Thoughts
On your own, it isn’t always easy to recognize what’s triggering your depression symptoms. In therapy with us, you have a chance to identify the root causes of your depression and learn to cope more effectively. Though we want to provide you with a better understanding of how depression works, our practice is eminently solution-focused. We want you to find relief in the present.
During the intake process, our main focus is on learning about your background, needs, and goals for therapy. The treatment plan is entirely a collaboration between you and your therapist. You know yourself better than anyone, so we want you to choose the direction therapy takes.
In sessions together, our goal is to help you recognize your stressors and develop new coping skills for treating depression. You will learn which areas of your life are causing the most stress and how to implement practical skills for dealing with them. There is a wide array of mindfulness techniques we utilize, including meditation and deep breathing. These relaxation strategies will help you regulate your emotions, stay grounded in the present, and remain more focused and creative throughout your day.
Our practice also targets ways for you to cut down on day-to-day busyness. We want to help you set boundaries in your life so that you don’t wind up overcommitted. It’s okay to say “no” sometimes, and it’s important to know your personal limits. To that end, we often use role-play in sessions o you can practice lifelike scenarios where boundaries would apply to your life. Doing so will help you creatively handle stressful situations in a way that is relaxing, playful, and even humorous at times.
While there are many different approaches our practice uses, one of the main methods we draw from is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The goal of CBT is to help you analyze your thoughts and understand how they impact your emotions and behaviors. Through CBT, you can learn about the underlying thought patterns that unconsciously contribute to depression. We also draw from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which is very similar to CBT. At its core, DBT seeks to help you manage intense emotions and change negative behaviors.
No matter how hopeless you feel, we can assure you that you are not alone. Millions of people all over the United States struggle with depression, and it is possible to find relief. Our entire staff is fully licensed and has multiple years of experience as therapists. The methods we use are evidence-based and proven to help with depression. Between our support and your commitment, we are confident that we can help you overcome negative thought patterns and keep depression from interfering with your day-to-day life.
You may have some concerns about depression treatment…
What if I don’t have the time or money for depression treatment?
Investing in self-care is the best thing you can do for yourself and for those you care about. Besides, in the long run, therapy is a relatively cheap investment. The things you learn here can pay dividends for your mental health for years to come.
I should able to deal with depression on my own.
Part of the reason it’s so hard to conquer depression is that it often drains all the energy and motivation required for overcoming it. In this way, the condition sabotages your ability to find relief. As much as you may want to fight it alone, it’s okay to ask for help. After all, no one can grow in isolation; we are social creatures, and that’s why therapy is such an effective way to cope with depression.
Talking about my problems won’t help me.
Depression therapy doesn’t just involve “talking” about your problems. It allows an unbiased third party to assess your problems holistically, addressing every aspect of your life. Moreover, our practice utilizes a wide range of in-session techniques that go beyond mere discussion. We use role-play, meditation, breathing exercises, and other strategies to help you get creative and combat depression from many different angles.
